Friends of the Migratory Bird/Duck Stamp Will Support Wildlife Conservation

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Friends of the Migratory Bird/Duck Stamp, formalizing a commitment by both organizations to cooperatively support and promote the Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, commonly called the Federal Duck Stamp. The continued success of the Federal Duck Stamp has been one of the hallmark achievements in the history of North American bird conservation.  Since its inception in 1934, the Duck Stamp has generated more than $800 million that has been used to acquire and protect almost 6 million acres of habitat for the National Wildlife Refuge System. AMJV Partner Awarded USFWS Grant to Protect Golden-winged Warbler Habitat

Migratory birds throughout the Western Hemisphere received a boost this week when U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe approved $3.5 million in grants for 27 collaborative conservation projects across the Americas. One such grant is providing $200,000 to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy to protect 600 acres within the Roan Massif Nationally Significant Natural Heritage Area. Grant funds will be used to protect the Grassy Ridge Bald Property, key habitat for migratory birds including the golden-winged warbler. DEC, Land Trust Alliance Announce $1.4 Million in Conservation Grants

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) awarded Conservation Partnership Program grants totaling $1.4 million to 57 nonprofit land trusts across the state, DEC and the Land Trust Alliance announced today at a news conference at the Mohonk Preserve in Ulster County as part of DEC’s weeklong celebration of Earth Day. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released Eagle Conservation Plan Guidance to provide a pathway for the responsible development of wind energy that fosters protection for bald and golden eagles. Sportsmen Generate $882 million for Conservation in 2012

Hunters and anglers are driving forces in the United States’ conservation efforts. In fact, they generated more than $882 million to fund fish and wildlife conservation and recreation projects across the nation in 2012 through the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration and Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration programs. These funds are raised through excise taxes applied to the sale of sporting firearms, ammunition, archery equipment, fishing equipment and tackle, and electric outboard motors.
